The Hub #2 - App
This is an App designed for my most recent research methods brief - engaging young people with reading. I identified libraries as a key issue amongst young people that needs addressing - they just aren’t into going to their local libraries - and they could close down if people don’t visit.
With this in mind, I used my local library as a model to undertake a full rebrand, with a new initiative to engage people with reading again. A new name (The Hub) was devised to really place this at the centre of the community, offering an open plan social space adjoining the main library, where people can catch up over a coffee or a smoothie, talk about anything, browse the collections and chill out.
Regular events such as Scrabble Championships (based around the highly popular iPad game) and Angry Birds Showdown bring in young people, as well as late opening hours and other events such as book signings and gigs for unsigned bands.
The app is designed to reflect The Hub’s dynamic interior, available freely through the app store so that everyone can download and easily see what’s happening at The Hub. They can check the leader boards, share special offers with their friends (like 2 for 1 on drinks/lunch), and browse videos of recent events.
I had immense fun working on this brief - there’s more to it, but I’m afraid I can’t reveal everything just yet. I’ve been really passionate to rework the library, and I’m hopeful that in the future, things like this will engage everyone with reading once again.

KingsWay
I was approached by KingsWay Community Café to produce some informational leaflets & posters for use in the café, as well as the partnering St Michael’s Church and Kingsway Chapel.
The aim was to show visitors what KingsWay is about, as well as giving an insight into those partnering churches. I included QR codes, meaning that visitors with smartphones (a large portion of KingsWay’s potential customers are students at the nearby university) could check out the websites without having to go home and remember the addresses.
The colours were chosen to reflect the café’s colour scheme and friendly atmosphere.

The Hub #1
My latest university brief saw my first ‘proper’ venture into web design, designing a brand new website to sit alongside my library rebrand, which you’ll hear about next month. The theme is decidedly ‘vintage’ to fit alongside The Hub itself, a new project which is designed to encourage young people to read.
More on this brief to come!
Swing Into Spring
I was approached by On the Beat Music to design the programme for their ‘Swing Into Spring’ concert with St Andrew’s Primary School. A simple black & white design was needed, so I applied a slightly 1940s vibe to capture the spirit of this musical evening.
The programmes were produced to A5 size.
Mission Week #2
Here are another two designs I created for the CU’s mission week. The car wash flyer was given a slightly vintage, friendly theme to encourage people to the event, whilst the ‘International Dessert Evening’ flyer is a vintage/contemporary hybrid, highlighting the colours in the dessert pictured.

Chester University Mission Week: Publicity
I was approached again by the Christian Union to produce the publicity for this year’s mission week, with the theme of “Who do You think I am?”.
Numerous events are happening throughout the week, and I wanted to give each one an identity of its own. This is the Sports Quiz flyer, produced on A5 and A3.

Wirral Men | Logo
I was approached by a local organisation, Wirral Men, to come up with a local based around the idea of simplicity, boldness and ‘manliness’. It also needed to include their web address.
I took the brief and produced something with a rugged but bold aesthetic. Both monochrome and colour versions are displayed.

Branding & Packaging: Callum Peters Photography
I recently rebranded and redesigned my packaging for the photography arm of ‘me’. My new business cards, featuring a slimmer profile and more vintage aesthetic in the form of my classic camera logo, double up as swing tags. Everything is brought together simply with string - minimal packaging, minimal cost, minimal effect on the environment.
Self-Promotion | In preparation for my Work-Based Learning module, I created some mini-portfolio packs which were sent out last month. I went for a vintage style, with the pack including an A5 string-bound portfolio, a DVD of my motion graphics, my contact card, a CV, a poster and… sweets! Rhubarb & Custards to be precise, in keeping with Yummy Custard! I had great fun making these, though there were some stressful moments, and I am happy to say that I have managed to secure my placement, which will take place in May!

Pitch Master | This is my pitching document, presenting solutions to the problem we were presented with by the ‘client’. My three ideas included a short story Rubik’s Cube, a full-on library rebrand and ‘Book Stop’. I decided to go for a clean and simple look for the pitching document, which would be left behind at my client pitch. It’s printed on thin card, and bound with string - a safe alternative to stapling.
We were given the opportunity to pick one of our three ideas to take forward for development. Which one did I pick? The library re-brand. Look out in the coming months for my take on a rebranded, reinvigorated alternative to what is today’s humdrum village library. Stay tuned.

Wishing all my followers a very happy new year - as ever, thanks for following and I hope to give you all some great design, film and photography throughout 2012.
Light City • University brief as part of our Motion Design module. We were asked to create a short film thinking particularly of light and movement. I chose Liverpool (the full low-down can be found on Vimeo) and experimented with manual camera settings such as long exposure times. Enjoy!

WhatCar? App Design | This is my final design as part of a university brief to develop some information graphics. The chosen format was an iPhone app, and the information is best-selling cars of the month. The app is updated monthly when new sales figures are published by the SMMT. A design was chosen that replicates the tax-disc; the user can swipe through the ‘tax discs’ of the Top 10 selling cars of that month, tapping on each one to reveal a WhatCar? review of that car. This makes full use of the iPhone’s gesture technology. The image shows the App’s sequence from startup to use.
This was an interesting brief to work on!
